In her pre-budget research paper, IDFC FIRST Bank’s Chief Economist, Ms Gaura Sen Gupta writes that, ‘This year’s Budget will be presented against the backdrop of slowing domestic growth and volatile global environment. The Budget will need to find fiscal space to support the twin engines of growth – consumption and capex, while remaining fiscally prudent. We expect the budget to reinforce capital expenditure which has higher growth multipliers and provide a moderate cut in income tax to support consumption. FY26 fiscal deficit target is expected to be 4.5% of GDP.’
